About John Razzano: “When my wife, Mary was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2014, I took on the role family caregiver. That meant playing head nurse, chief paperwork officer, cheerleader, and patient advocate. During that time, I felt alone and isolated trying to navigate the physical, emotional, and psychological elements of Mary’s treatment. Mary succumbed to the disease in late 2015, and one year later my adult son was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, and I shared caregiver duties with my future daughter-in-law. Today, my son is healthy and in remission. I started a support group, with Dr. Fran Baumgarten for the family caregivers of cancer patients at a local hospital to let people know, they are not alone, there is help out there, and a community willing to support and hold up its fellow caregivers.

About Dr. Fran Baumgarten: “Since 2000 my life’s work has been focused on building the nonprofit Fran’s Place-Center for Cancer Counseling. Fran’s Place provides the emotional and psychological help, education and guidance, so desperately needed when dealing with a cancer diagnosis. As a two-time cancer survivor, psychologist, and experience as a caregiver for my family (grandmother, dad and mom), I quickly recognized the lack of services for both patients and caregivers when faced with a chronic and/or life-threatening illness. At Fran’s Place we provide these very needed services free of charge in English and Spanish.
