25th Anniversary – Message from Dr. Fran

In 2000, as many of you know, I co-founded, with a dear friend, Fran’s Place-Center for Cancer Counseling. As a 2-time cancer survivor and a clinical Psychologist, having successfully survived a harrowing experience, I found myself with both a personal and professional intimate experience of the turmoil and struggle, for both me and my family, of what going through cancer is like, how it impacts every part of your life, and what it takes to live life with cancer, as well as in recovery and afterwards. So, I decided that, for me, being alive meant using my knowledge and experience to help others have an easier time dealing with their cancer diagnosis. I dedicated myself to giving back, paying it forward, and helping other people with cancer to reduce stress, improve their response to medical treatment, decrease the emotional, physical, life-altering, social, relationship and vocational challenges that accompany this disease. Ultimately, helping people find and maintain a satisfying, fulfilled and joyful life.
I can hardly believe it has been 25 years! Through the years, with the help of a wonderful group of volunteer board members, excellent clinicians and very loyal supporters, we have been able to help thousands of people – cancer patients and their families and caregivers. We get referrals from top oncologists and cancer treatment centers across California. When Covid hit, we didn’t slow down. We implemented telehealth, which actually enabled us to expand our services, and demand began to increase, by 20% per year.
My heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you, who rose to the challenge! You have participated in helping us Make a Difference in the lives of Cancer Patients. We couldn’t do this without your support.
